Task 2: Writing for an Academic Discussion (Urban Green Spaces)
This week, we are analyzing urban development strategies. City planners frequently face a difficult decision: should limited municipal land be prioritized for affordable housing and commercial developments, or should cities preserve and expand public parks and green spaces? What is your perspective on how city leadership should allocate urban land?
I believe housing should take absolute priority. Many major cities face severe housing shortages, driving up rent prices and forcing lower-income families out. Building high-density residential buildings on open municipal plots solves immediate economic and living needs for residents.
While housing is important, I strongly advocate for protecting green spaces. Parks absorb carbon emissions, reduce urban heat island effects, and improve residents’ mental health. Once a park is built over with concrete, that natural habitat is lost forever.
